BRS leaders condemned Telangana Ministers Thummala Nageswara Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar for “insensitive” comments against Maganti Sunitha, demanding apologies and accusing Congress of disrespecting women.

Tensions flared in Telangana politics on Tuesday as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) lashed out at Congress Ministers Thummala Nageswara Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar for their remarks against Maganti Sunitha, the BRS candidate for the Jubilee Hills bypoll and wife of the late MLA Maganti Gopinath.

Former Minister V. Srinivas Goud said the statements reflected a “complete erosion of moral and human values,” demanding that both Ministers issue immediate public apologies. “If Rajiv Gandhi’s family could campaign after his death, why can’t Sunitha’s children support her? These remarks insult every woman in Telangana,” he said.

Echoing similar outrage, BRS MLC Tata Madhu accused the Congress leadership of resorting to personal attacks out of fear of electoral defeat. “It is disgraceful that sitting Ministers would stoop to such language. They owe an apology not just to Maganti Sunitha but to women across the state,” he stated.

Analysis: This controversy exposes how personal rhetoric continues to dominate Telangana’s campaign trail, overshadowing policy debates. Political analysts note that gender sensitivity in public discourse remains an unfulfilled promise across party lines. For voters, this episode serves as another reminder of how civility often takes a backseat in high-stakes elections.
