BRS Protests LPG Shortage in Hyderabad, Demands Debate in Assembly
BRS leaders led by KTR stage protest in Hyderabad over LPG shortage, seek urgent discussion in legislature citing impact on households and businesses.
Leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) staged a protest in Hyderabad, intensifying pressure on both the Centre and the state government over the ongoing LPG shortage.
The demonstration, led by party working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) at Gun Park, saw legislators holding placards shaped like gas cylinders and raising slogans against what they described as administrative failure. The party later marched towards the Assembly, continuing its protest and submitting adjournment motions seeking an immediate debate.
Addressing the media, KTR alleged that the shortage is affecting daily life across Telangana, particularly households, small eateries and institutions such as hostels and old-age homes. He criticised both governments for shifting blame, stating that while the Centre denies any shortage, the situation on the ground reflects supply constraints.
The BRS leader also raised concerns about reports suggesting a possible reduction in LPG cylinder size, warning that such a move could increase the financial burden on consumers.
According to the party, disruptions in gas supply are already impacting the hospitality sector, with hotels and small businesses struggling to operate. The issue, they said, has broader economic implications as it affects livelihoods tied to food services.
The protest highlights how essential commodities can quickly become political flashpoints. For citizens, the immediate concern remains consistent access to cooking fuel, while policymakers face pressure to ensure transparent communication and stable supply chains during periods of disruption.
