BRS Calls Telangana-Wide Protests Against SIT Notices to KCR
The BRS has called for Telangana-wide protests against SIT notices issued to party chief K Chandrashekar Rao, alleging misuse of police machinery by the Congress government.
Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi has escalated its confrontation with the state government, announcing statewide protests over SIT notices issued to former Chief Minister and party supremo K Chandrashekar Rao.
Party leaders and activists staged a demonstration at BJR Chowrasta, accusing the government of using the phone-tapping probe as a pretext to politically target KCR ahead of elections. The BRS said the agitation would remain peaceful but widespread, with plans for black-flag demonstrations, bike rallies, dharnas, road blockades and effigy burnings in more than 1,200 villages across Telangana.
Addressing party workers, BRS leaders alleged that the notices were part of a diversionary strategy to shift focus from governance failures. They reiterated KCR’s role in the creation and development of Telangana, warning that any attempt to “humiliate” him would be met with strong public resistance. Police maintained a close vigil during the protest to ensure law and order.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao sharpened the attack on social media, accusing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of adopting a “vindictive” approach. KTR alleged that police pasted notices at KCR’s residence late at night despite the former CM having already responded and shared his address details. He claimed this violated standard procedures, including norms related to questioning senior citizens.
Speaking later at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said the move reflected the government’s insecurity ahead of municipal elections, asserting that KCR was “not just a party leader but a figure representing Telangana society.”
Analysis: The BRS appears intent on converting the legal controversy into a mass political issue, betting on sympathy for its veteran leader. Whether the protests galvanise public support or deepen political polarisation will likely influence the tone of Telangana’s electoral season.
