BJP Targets Stalin Over Delimitation Protest, Calls It ‘Poll-Driven Politics’
Telangana BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy criticises MK Stalin for burning delimitation bill copy, alleges move aimed at electoral gains.
The political confrontation over delimitation intensified further as Telangana BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for publicly burning a copy of the proposed Bill, calling the act “politically motivated.”
Reddy alleged that the protest was timed to influence voters ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, suggesting it was more about electoral messaging than policy concerns. He dismissed claims that the delimitation exercise would disadvantage southern states, asserting that the proposal does not alter the existing seat distribution based on earlier census benchmarks.
According to the BJP leader, the Centre’s plan focuses on expanding the total number of seats to accommodate women’s reservation, rather than reducing representation for any region. He argued that portraying the exercise as a threat to southern states was misleading and aimed at creating unnecessary apprehension.
Reddy also referred to earlier discussions where leaders, including Stalin, had sought clarity from the Centre on maintaining the existing framework for seat allocation. He maintained that the current proposal aligns with those concerns while advancing long-pending reforms like women’s representation.
The remarks come amid a wider national debate on delimitation, where political parties are sharply divided over its implications. For voters, the issue blends constitutional reform with electoral strategy, making it both a governance question and a campaign narrative ahead of key state elections.
