Kamareddy police arrest 19 in connection with the Banswada communal clash and step up surveillance, warning of action against those spreading misinformation online.

Normalcy is gradually returning to Banswada in Telangana’s Kamareddy district, even as police intensify action following last week’s communal unrest. Authorities confirmed that 19 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence.

Kamareddy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chandra stated that 42 individuals have been identified, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining suspects. Surveillance has reportedly been mounted on around 120 persons as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police have also issued a stern warning against the circulation of fake news, morphed videos, or provocative content on social media. Officials said cases would be registered against anyone attempting to inflame tensions online and urged citizens to act responsibly and report suspicious activity immediately.

The clash erupted on February 20 after a dispute reportedly broke out at a shopping location over music being played. The argument escalated into stone-pelting between two groups, leaving several people injured and causing damage to small shops. A police constable was also hurt while attempting to control the situation.

Political reactions have followed, with leaders from different parties expressing concern and demanding swift action. As investigations continue, authorities say maintaining peace and preventing misinformation remain their top priorities.
