Telangana government directs private LPG firms to increase auto LPG supply amid a 35% drop, as demand from auto-rickshaws continues to rise.

The Telangana government has stepped in to address the ongoing shortage of Auto LPG, directing private suppliers to scale up availability across the state.

A review meeting was held in Hyderabad by Civil Supplies Commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra with major private operators, including Aegis Gas, Super Gas, Go Gas and others that together dominate the bulk of the state’s auto LPG market. Officials stressed the urgency of restoring supply levels, especially in the backdrop of disruptions linked to the West Asia situation.

Authorities said the Auto LPG segment has seen a sharp drop of nearly 35 percent in supply, leading to a daily shortfall of around 55 metric tonnes. With nearly one lakh LPG-run auto-rickshaws operating in Telangana, the shortage has begun affecting daily transport services.

The government has asked companies to explore all possible sourcing options, including imports, and warned of strict action if supply gaps persist. Officials added that coordination with the Centre and oil marketing companies is ongoing to stabilise availability.

Meanwhile, domestic LPG supply for households remains unaffected, even as the transport sector faces constraints.

The shortage highlights the vulnerability of urban mobility systems to fuel disruptions. For commuters, this could translate into longer wait times and higher fares if supply does not normalise soon. Ensuring steady fuel availability for public transport remains critical to keeping city movement smooth and affordable.
