Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said arrested ACS officer Nupur Borah amassed assets 400 times her income. Vigilance Cell recovered ₹92.5 lakh cash, gold, and multiple properties.

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday revealed shocking details about the arrest of ACS officer Nupur Borah, who was found to have accumulated assets nearly 400 times greater than her legitimate income. The Chief Minister asserted that the case would not end with suspension or dismissal alone, but would move forward with strict penal measures under the law.

Borah, serving as Circle Officer in Goraimari, Kamrup district, was arrested by the CM’s Special Vigilance Cell following raids at her residences. Officials seized over ₹92.5 lakh in cash, gold ornaments valued at nearly ₹1.5 crore, and evidence of two plots and three flats in Guwahati under her name. The recovery has been described as the largest cash seizure by the Vigilance Cell so far.

Sarma said the officer had been under close watch for the past six months after she was linked to an illegal land transfer while posted in Barpeta. He also appealed to citizens to report any instance of bribery, stressing that corruption would be dealt with severely.

Senior Superintendent of Police of the Vigilance Cell, Rosie Kalita, confirmed that Borah’s arrest followed a preliminary inquiry. Raids were carried out at her flat in Guwahati and a rented house in Barpeta, leading to the recovery of cash, jewellery, and property documents. Kalita noted that the investigation is still at an early stage, and further leads are being pursued.

The development has sent ripples across Assam’s administrative services, with the state government making it clear that cases of disproportionate assets will be pursued aggressively to restore public faith in governance.
