AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi hails the party’s five-seat victory in Bihar and reflects on his political journey, hinting he may step aside for the next generation.

AIMIM floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has described the party’s strong performance in the Bihar Assembly elections as a clear message to critics who branded the Majlis as a “B-Team” of larger parties. Speaking at the inauguration of the Dr. Nooruddin Owaisi Educational Campus in Hafeez Baba Nagar, he said the results reaffirmed AIMIM’s growing political influence both inside and outside Telangana.

Akbaruddin attributed the wins—including five seats in Bihar and the party’s backing for Jubilee Hills victor Naveen Yadav to what he called “Majlis’ magic” and its deep grassroots connections. He also noted that every ruling party in Telangana eventually seeks AIMIM’s support, despite its rivals repeatedly predicting the party’s decline.

In a reflective moment, Akbaruddin hinted at the possibility of stepping away from active politics. Having won six consecutive assembly terms, he said he now desires a quieter life, adding that he would willingly make way for a capable successor from the next generation. “I have received immense affection from the people. If a strong leader emerges, I will happily retire and focus on the institutions I built,” he said.

Before the event, he led a padayatra through the locality before formally opening the new educational complex.

Analysis: Akbaruddin’s remarks combine celebration with introspection, signalling both AIMIM’s expanding footprint and a potential shift in leadership dynamics. His public hint at retirement could reshape political equations in Hyderabad’s Old City, where he has been a dominant figure for decades. For AIMIM, the challenge may soon move from electoral consolidation to managing a generational transition without losing its core support base.
